LA Fleet Week is now underway! Free concerts, free tours of active duty ships, and much more Aug 30 – September 2. The Battleship Iowa (which permanently resides in San Pedro as a museum) is being joined by six ships from the Navy and Coast Guard. Two sailing ships from the Los Angeles Maritime Institute will also be hosting tours and having mock cannon battles in the afternoons.
No tickets are required for the shows, so if you want a good spot plan accordingly to get there early!
Friday: Military Appreciation Concert with Cheap Trick, 5:30 – 10:00
Saturday: The Bob Hope USO Rock Out with the US Navy Band, Soul Sacrifice, USO Show Troupe, The Record Company, and Fast Times Ulimate 80’s Tribute, 4:00 – 10:00
Sunday: Country and Dance Music with Brent Payne and DJ MissNinja, 3:00 – 10:00
In addition to the ships and shows, Fleet Week has indoor and outdoor expos, food trucks, a cooking competition, aerial demonstrations and parachute jumps, a basketball tournament, an obstacle course, and a race over the Vincent Thomas Bridge.
Just take the 110 to its southern end and you’ll be right by entrance. Parking is $2 an hour after the first free hour, with a $19 daily max. There’s also a free parking lot with shuttle service on 22nd Street between Samson and Miner, open 8:00 to 6:00. Have fun!
